UPDATE:The Tree Haul has been CANCELED due to weather. Thunder & Lightning + Tall Trees = Bad Idea. The rest of the day will go on as planned, except that now we're going to the Hooters in Princeton, NJ. Also, we'd like to meet at 51 Plum St BY 11AM. We're aiming to be at Hooters by RU vs USF kickoff at Noon. The Movie and Diner are still on as originally scheduled. Check back here for future updates. Call DLZ ((eight five six) nine zero five - forty-one thirty-six) for more details. (Since we don't have to be up early, now, please only call after 9:30am. Thanks.) Saturday, November 15th, the men of Sigma Alpha Mu, and their friends will take part in an all-day extravaganza, and we're welcoming everyone to join us.
Here's the plan: Tree Haul
- The day starts off with a tree haul. Like last week, we're going to the tree nursery at the Morris County Soil Conservation District. We'll be cutting roots, and weather permitting, moving trees to their new homes in the nursery.
- Bring your lumberjack attire; we're geared up for a messy, muddy, blast. The guys had a great time last week, and we're expecting this week to be even better, with many more people attending!
- We are LEAVING 51 Plum Street by 8:00am. Not 8:01am. Not 8:08am. 8:00am. If you want to follow us, be there by 8:00am. If you need a ride - be there LONG BEFORE 8:00am, because have approx 12 empty seats, but they will fill up rapidly. First come, first serve, unless we like you.
- If you want to leave later, you're welcome to show up later, but you're responsible for getting there, on your own. There may be a caravan leaving later in the morning. Contact DLZ if you cannot make the early one.
- RAIN DATE: As of now, the intention is to go on Saturday, rain or shine. It's a dirty job, anyway - the rain just makes it a wet, more dirty job - and presents the opportunity to have more fun, and generate better stories. If the event is canceled (don't count on it) the rain date is Nov 23rd.
CHECK BACK HERE FOR STATUS UPDATES. IF THE EVENT IS CANCELED, IT WILL BE POSTED RIGHT HERE.- Tree Haul has been CANCELED. As of now, it is rescheduled for Nov 23rd. This may change, so check back here for updates.
- Gloves, Shovels, etc, will be provided for us. .. Bring/wear boots/shirts/jeans you don't mind getting ruined. No guarantees your clothes will get ruined - but there's always a chance. Zack, if you come in Abercrombie, I will see to it that your clothes get ruined.
- Estimated Travel Time: 1 hour. (This puts us at the trees at 9:00am).
- Estimated work: Approx 4 hours. (Depends on weather, and how many people show up. If you're coming late, make sure you tell someone, so we can call you, if we finish early.)
- This has us finishing up around 1pm.
Hooters- Next Destination: Estimated Travel Time (from trees) + Clean Up Time = 45 Minutes.
- This puts us at Hooters @ 1:45. (Possibly early, depending on how fast we get through the trees, and how much work we can do, with the weather.)
- If you're aiming to meet us at
Hooters, it's the one in Wayne, NJ. Hooters in Princeton, NJ. Expect us there by 2pm Noon. Call DLZ (eight five six) nine zero five - forty-one thirty-six) for more details. - Expect to eat until around
3:30pm whenever the game is over, with a 1hr 1/2hr drive back to College Ave. We'll be home around 4:30pm 4:00pm.
Movie
- Quantum of Solace (The new James Bond movie): Route 1 AMC Lowes: 9:45pm and/or 10:15pm (in case of sold out).
- Movie over at either 11:30 or Midnight, depending on show time.
- Chapter will pay for any brother/post-rush/rush who
attended and participated in the tree haul. sees the movie with us.
Diner- After movie, we'll go to Omega Diner. (Other suggestions are welcome.) If you're planning on JUST coming for the diner, let someone know to call you when the movie lets out.
Final Notes
- This is a public event. EVERYONE/ANYONE is welcome. We obviously prefer Rutgers students. We will NOT be paying for girls, or non-Rutgers students.
- We will comp the MOVIE TICKETS of
guys who participate in the Tree Haul the guys who see the movie with us. - If you don't eat anything at the diner, you could go the whole day and only pay for Hooters.
If you're interested in being a driver, please let DLZ know in advance. |

November 9th, 2008, Sigma Alpha Mu participated in the final event of Delta Gamma's Anchor Week: Anchor Splash. The day was filled with fun, swimming races at the Werblin pool. There were numerous events. Most consisted of various takes on swimming relay races with twists such as pushing a beach ball, or pulling a Delta Gamma sister in a tube. The final event was a synchronized swimming competition. Sigma Alpha Mu received the award for Most Spirited, recognition for our great spirit and participation in all of the Anchor Week events. The Sammy Brothers would like to give a special thanks to Ashley Aquino, Alyssa Ross, and Kelly Tooker, our coaches for the event. We really appreciated their help and encouragement. Also a thanks goes out to Justina Benzan for putting together a great week of events!

On November 8th, Sammy brothers helped out at the Morris County Soil Conservation District (MCSCD) Tree Nursery. The nursery is upgrading its facilities and the small trees that they have need to be moved to their new homes. The new nursery has an engineered irrigation system that is gravity fed and recycles the used water, making it very environmentally friendly. The brothers that participated on November 8th, along with their chapter advisor and representative from the MCSD, Ken Sicknick, moved 268 trees in total. The nursery holds five different types of trees and two different types of shrubs, totaling over 800 trees! Today the brothers concentrated on moving two of the species, which were 98 Green Ash trees, and 170 Red Maples. They had rooted themselves into the ground, right through the pots they were being contained in, making the job quite a task. The trees in the nursery will be sold at cost to organizations that are participating in stream and wetland restoration. The brothers had fun getting out of the city of New Brunswick into the rural area of Morris County on an old farm. Next Saturday Sigma Alpha Mu will be going back up to the nursery to hopefully finish the near 500 trees that have yet to be moved. Get more information about the tree nursery here: Morris County Soil Conservation District |

Saturday, October 26th, we entered two teams into Alpha Chi Omega's & Delta Chi's Dodgethis dodge ball tournament, held at the College Ave. Gymnasium. Together, the two organizations raised over $2,000 to benefit Women Aware and the Jimmy V. Foundation. We are happy to say we registered 16 brothers for the event, and provided one of the best turnouts among organization that participated. All of us had a lot of fun and we're looking forward to next year's tournament. We would like to give a special thanks to the girls of Alpha Chi Omega for all of their hard work, and for cheering us on each time we took the court. |
